Great Expectations for the World Championships
Almost 200 participants from 13 countries are on their way to the 2024 IRV Wheel Gymnastics World Championships in Almere, the Netherlands
The Japanese team is already in the air, Team Austria has packed and decorated its minibus, and most of the other teams are also on their way. The countdown is close to zero and the host country is more than ready. The gym in Almere Topsportcentrum has been tested by the Dutch team. Training for all nations will start on Monday 29 July. On Tuesday evening, the official Opening Ceremony will kick off the big rolling event of 2024.
The semi-finals will start on Wednesday 31 July, with the finals on the agenda from 1 August, starting with the Cyr competition. The IRV is delighted that there will be a very diverse and international Cyr competition this year, especially in the women’s section: 11 athletes from five different countries will compete. We are looking forward to the creative programmes of the Cyr community – also in the men’s category where reigning world champion Hauke Narten will face sharp competition.
The biggest group of competitors at the world championships is the Junior Girls category, with 40 athletes competing from 11 countries. We can expect high level performances in this section. In the Senior Women’s category we have 35 registered athletes, while 17 competitors in the Senior Men’s category will go for Gold, Silver and Bronze. Some of the athletes have already revealed their new elements on Social Media – surprises and wow moments guaranteed in all competition categories.
With 41 athletes, Germany is the biggest nation, whilst Spain is sending just 1 Cyr gymnast. Other single competitors will be competing for Hungary and the UK. Other delegations with more than 20 competitors include the Netherlands (host country), the USA, Switzerland and Japan.
The IRV is looking forward to an exciting competition week.
