Gold for Spain and Japan – 2024 All Around Cyr World Championships were a blast
Inspired by Moulin Rouge – Lea Toran Jenner enchanted the public in Almere with her artistic programme to a French love song. An expressive and fluid routine packed with difficulty secured her the first gold medal of the 2024 Wheel Gymnastics Championships. In second place, only 0.225 points behind Lea, Sandra Heidingsfelder from Team Germany entertained us all with a powerful clown routine. Meanwhile, the bronze medal and third place on the podium was captured by Ingrid Vukusic from Austria.
In the men’s competition, tension was high after a number of falls during the technical programme. First up with his artistic programme was Cyrus Luciano from the US team with a inspiring routine full of difficulty. On his 40th birthday, Germany’s Hauke Narten performed a fantastic routine, even undoing his shirt while rotating in the wheel. However, in the end it was Shigeki Kanai from Japan who prevailed and won the All Around title with his poetic routine about a summer evening in Japan.
NB: The All Around title is decided on the basis of a combined score for a technical and artistic programme. For a full overview of results, see the IRV Event Page.
