#World Championships 2022

The wait is over. After four years, the IRV is finally able to organise a World Championships in Wheel Gymnastics again, and it is now only a couple of weeks until the Opening Ceremony. Almost 100 wheel gymnasts from 13 countries at the upcoming World Championships in Sønderborg

Despite difficult and very challenging training conditions, 93 athletes have qualified for the championships and will travel to Sønderburg / Denmark. In the aftermath of Covid conditions and its lockdowns, no nation is able to send a full contingent. of participants, but with 22 gymnasts the German delegation will be the biggest, followed by Japan (12 athletes), Switzerland and the US team (both with 11 gymnasts).

All in all, gymnasts from 13 nations will be present. The IRV is happy to welcome wheelers from Bulgaria and Ghana for the first time. For many junior gymnasts, these championships will be the first occasion to compete at an international level in a real time event.

The IRV is looking forward to a week full of action, creative routines, and an overall wheel community spirit.

The Opening Ceremony will take place on Monday 23 May, while on Tuesday there will be time for training and the IRV General Assembly. Wednesday and Thursday will see the senior and junior All Around semi-finals in Gym Wheel and the Overall world championship event in Cyr Wheel. The All Around finals in Gym Wheel are scheduled for Friday alongside an open Cyr Battle event that is being offered for the first time in addition to the official championships. Individual discipline finals will be the highlight of the final day of competition on Saturday 28 May.

Spectators are welcome in Denmark and the local organisers have reported unexpectedly high ticket sales on their website.

LIVESTREAM – Good news for those of you who cannot attend the event in person

The IRV will provide a LIVESTREAM from all the world championships finals. The livestream will be available on the IRV YouTube and Facebook channels.

Interested parties can share the Facebook livestream directly from their own accounts.

Let’s roll together, let’s turn the world upside down, let’s enjoy the first live event since the 2019 Team World Championships in Akita / Japan.
