The International Wheel Gymnastics Federation mourns the loss of Patrick (“Pate”) Klar-Thommen.
Pate passed away peacefully on 25 February 2026, at the age of 75, surrounded by his family at his home in Hölstein, Switzerland, following a long illness borne with confidence and patience.
His tireless enthusiasm, engagement and support was indispensable in the foundation of our federation. Long before the federation was officially founded in 1995, he was always active, usually behind the scenes as a motivator and the “right hand” of his wife, Tegi, who later became a long-serving vice president of the IRV. Together, the two travelled enormous distances across Europe in the service of international wheel gymnastics.
The very first European Championships in Liestal in 1992 were only possible due to his initiative and selfless dedication. At nearly all subsequent major international events, his professional organisational skills and seemingly inexhaustible drive contributed to the success of championships, international training camps, and other gatherings.
We are profoundly indebted to him and are deeply grateful for the time spent together and the many wonderful memories we associate with him.
Our sincere sympathy goes out to his wife, Tegi, ane we extend our condolences to their two sons and families.
The IRV will always honour Patrick’s memory.
