Danish Open 2024, Austrian Open 2024, and Belgian Open 2025

The 2024-2025 season of IRV Certified Competitions was characterised by a high level of participation at all three events. Impressive routines – impressive numbers. We can summarise this season with these four words.

It all started on 9 November 2024 with the Danish Open. 35 gymnasts from Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and Denmark travelled to Sǿnderburg, where participants performed in an All Around competition in the youth, junior and senior age categories. Particularly noteworthy were the performances of Maria Kaas (Belgium), who achieved the highest overall score of the day, despite competing in the youngest age group, and Timon Peter (Switzerland), title-winner from the World Championships 2024 in the Netherlands, who achieved the second-best overall score of the day and thus won the junior class.

Next season’s Danish Open will take place on 1 November 2025 and will include a Cyr contest as a World Championship qualifier (with German participants).

Next on the agenda was the 13th Austrian Open on 23 November in Salzburg, which attracted the participation of 67 women and 7 men from 6 countries. In the elite category, the competition resulted in a truly international podium. World Champion Simon Rufener from Switzerland captured first place ahead of Malena Kernacs from the host county Austria and Lea Gmeiner, a member of the German national team.

Three different flags were also on display after the junior competition. Gold went to Switzerland again, as Meret Stark showed the best routines. Jamal Kiel from Germany took silver, while the bronze medal went to Laura Schmitz from Belgium.

In the youth class, Maria Kaas from Belgium could confirm her high potential by winning the competition ahead of Olivia Notter and Nadine Kamm, both from Switzerland.

The stage is already set for the 14th Austrian Open, which will take place on 22 November 2025 in the famous Salzburg Alpenstrasse Sports Hall.

Last but not least, the Belgium Open on 12 April 2025 completed the IRV Certified series with a record number of participants and a high level of competition. More than 70 gymnasts from 9 nations competed in the event, with participants from Austria, Belgium, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and Ukraine.

In the senior category, Gabriël Lomans from the Netherlands, All Around bronze medalist at the last World Championships, claimed the overall title, finishing ahead of reigning All Around World Champion Simon Rufener (Switzerland). The best female result was achieved by Malena Kernacs (Austria), winner of the 2024 Belgian Open, who secured third place and once again demonstrated world class performances.

In the junior category, the title went to Meret Stark (Switzerland), who impressed both judges and audience with her strong and elegant routines. Timon Peter, the reigning Junior Boys All Around World Champion, finished in fifth place.

The Youth A competition was particularly exciting. Olivia Notter (Switzerland) took gold after a close contest, just ahead of last year’s champion, Maria Kaas (Belgium). Both gymnasts stood out especially in the vault discipline, delivering clean 1.5 twisting somersaults. In the Youth B category – designed as a more accessible format for young talents – Abby Iseke from Germany took the top spot.

The competition also featured team rankings in both the junior and senior categories: The Junior Team title went to Switzerland, while Austria claimed victory in the Senior Team category, underlining their depth and consistency across all disciplines.

The next edition of the International Belgian Open will take place as usual the weekend before Easter, 28-29 March 2026.

All three competitions fulfilled the IRV guidelines and renewed their status as IRV Certified Competitions. Congratulations.

The IRV would like to thank the organisers, volunteers, families and local helpers for their dedication, time and commitment to make these events possible and to offer attractive competitive platforms in a warm and welcoming atmosphere for both elite gymnasts and the whole wheel gymnastics family.
